(ANSA) - Aosta, April 1 - The residents of the northern Italian region of Valle d'Aosta increased to 124,812 in 2006 from 119,546 in 2001, according to a survey by the authorities in the region, Italian national statistics institute ISTAT and local Chamber of Commerce.

The number of weddings in the region grew to 488 in 2006 from 449 in 2001. The birth rate in Valle d'Aosta was at 9.4 births per 1,000 residents, while the death rate stood at 10.6 deaths per 1,000 residents in 2006.

Couples with children accounted for 52.4 pct of total, and couples without children accounted for 34.9 pct in 2006. The families of one parent accounted for 12.7 pct.

Workplace accidents in Valle d'Aosta decreased by 2.9 pct year-on-year in 2006. The employment rate in the region stood at 75.2 pct among men and at 58.5 pct among women. (ANSA).
