2300 Arrive Kintail Field Centre and B & B accommodation at Glomach House
2230 Pick up at Inverness Railway Station for Lisa Garbellini and participants from Sogn Og Fjordane. Car depart Inverness for Kintail Field Centre
0000 Arrival at Kintail Field Centre for Lisa, Ann-Hege, Asgeir, Liv
Wed 5/7 Land Management on Balmacara and Kintail Estates (owned by the National Trust for Scotland)
0800 Breakfast
0845 Collect participants from Glomach House and bring to Kintail Centre
0900 Introduction to crofting land management and details of NTS land management scheme on Balmacara Estate and introduction to Field Trip 1 Becky
1000 Coffee (bus driver arrives)
1015 – 1045 Travel to Drumbuie & Durinish
1045 – 1320 Field Trip 1 – visit to villages of Drumbuie & Durinish · meet with crofters and see township activity. Outline of local land management and use of support mechanisms. See on the ground what the NTS scheme supports· discussion with public sector agencies about support for environmental / land management interests
1330 – 1430 Lunch at ‘Plockton Stores and Buttery' in the village of Plockton
1430 – 1630 Field Trip 2 – visit to village of Plockton · meet with Plockton crofters and discuss land management issues in village and use of NTS scheme. · Discuss pressures from tourism, housing demand and incoming residents. Solutions to resolve tensions – township fence, land for housing etc.
1630 – 1800 Freetime in/around Plockton. - potential for a boat trip if boat engine is repaired in time.
1800-1830 Travel back to Kintail Centre (bus driver leaves)
1840 - 1900 Discussion of seminar in Rhône-Alpes
1900 – 2000 Discussion with manager of Balmacara Estate of land management issues – crofting, deer, access – on the Estate
2015 Dinner (after dinner cars return Glomach House residents to their accommodation)
Thu 6/7 Land Management on Sconser Estate (owned by the John Muir Trust)
0745 Breakfast (bus driver arrives 0815)
0830 – 0915 Travel to Sconser (picking up Glomach House residents on the way past)
0915 – 1115 Field Trip 3 – visit to Sconser · Visit to township to see crofting land management · Discussion of the national Land Management Contract system and whether or not it is helpful· Discussion with representative of John Muir Trust about their intentions for the management of the estate.
1115 Sogn og Fjordane participants return to Inverness
1115 – 1125 Travel to Sligachan Hotel
1125 – 1155 Round-up discussion · Perceptions, points of interest, positive and negative reactions
1155 – 1245 Lunch at Sligachan hotel
1245 – 1500 Travel back to Inverness
