AlpCheck 2
AlpCheck 2, along the path of its processor, will take on the challenge of providing the Alpine Space area with an improvement of the quality of networks (physical and information), in particular of the accessibility of services and mobility management, which is fundamental for its sustainable growth.
The road based alpine transport mobility is showing both serious difficulties in assuring its natural functions (e.g. congestion of metropolitan area, traffic jams in the main axes, etc.) and unsustainable impacts (unbalanced territorial development, social exclusion, environmental impacts, safety concerns, etc.), especially after the EU enlargement, as underlined in the recently issued EU Green Paper on TEN-T. And the future scenarios seems to foster the concerns: as monitored by the "Alpine Observatory", the trends in the last ten years show a quickly raising level of road traffic and, if compared with the low rail-based traffic increase, the problem appears seriously worsening.
