The Regional Museum of Natural Science, in the prestigious mediaeval castle of Saint-Pierre, is characterised by an exhibition area set outover
9 showrooms, that illustrate to visitors the natural environment of Val d'Aosta. A precious introductory view for those wishing to immerse themselves in the region, and benefit from the many
available
excursions. Over the years, the Museum had also takenon asignificant role
on both a national an international level, as confirmed by the influx of Italian and foreign visitors and the scientific collaborations with museum bodies and universities.
The museum heritage consists of botanical, zoological and mineral-petrographic collections that have been donated, of"scientific" campaigns and items on loan from private individuals and institutions. In 1999, the Museum launched its own editorial line - “Monographs” -
for the publication of scientific works onthe natural environmentof the region. They have setup faunistic studies (ungulates, chiropterans, avifauna, lepidopters), floristic studies (vascular fauna, lichens, macromycetes), limnological and hydrogeological studies. More recently,a restorative conservation project
has been implemented as well as the museographic modernisation of the exhibition for the annual opening. The project isarticulated
on the original binomial castle (historical and architectonic asset)
-museum (naturalistic asset), creating
displays in line with the expressive and technological experiences of the most innovative museology During the execution of works (from summer 2008), the show rooms will not be open to the public.
