The Foire d'Eté or Summer Fair started in 1969 to offer visitors to the Valle d'Aosta during the summer an overview of the local crafts and an occasion to purchase them. Although the event has no roots in the distant past, it has managed to gain its own niche with currently about 400 exhibitors from the traditional sector (carving and sculpting in wood and stone, wrought iron, wooden
flowers) as well as approximately seventy stalls offering more recent productions (made of salt dough, dried flowers and fabrics). The Fair, which winds along the streets of the city centre, takes place on Sunday just before the Feast of the Assumption and it offers visitors the chance to rediscover the feel of a great open-air fair.
