Rhêmes-Notre-Dame Visitor Centre (P.N.G.P.)
A multi-functional structure which tells the tale of the flight of the Bearded Vulture
The Rhêmes-Notre-Dame Visitor Centre offers visitors a fascinating tale: that of the
Bearded Vulture, the largest bird in Europe, having once again taken flight in the skies of the Gran Paradiso National Park. The visit follows the various steps of the tale, in chronological order: the dramatic extinction, the small steps towards the emotional return and, possibly and finally, the long-awaited happy ending, with the now stable presence, of this particular bird, in our skies. The tale proposed during
the exhibition itinerary is enriched by numerous texts, images and sound as well as by certain multimedia games; of particular interest , to the visitor, is the reconstruction of a real Bearded Vulture nest on
the rockface. The Centre also offers the opportunity of examining an "ossuary", a detailed model of planar flight and other elements that help the visitor to get to know the Park's avifauna. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the Visitor Centre includes
a tourist information office, a projection room and a temporary exhibition room. Park Visitor Centres are managed by the
Fondation Grand Paradis
, a body whose aim is to develop naturalistic and cultural tourism on the Val d'Aosta side of the
Gran Paradiso National Park
.
